Some Routines of the Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah Be Upon Him) in the holy month of Ramadan

The Prophet’s (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) routine of worship and asceticism would have increased considerably during the holy month of Ramadan as compared to ordinary days. In this holy month of Ramadan, the fear and love of Allah Almighty would be at their peak. In the same passion and love, Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah Be upon Him) would also increase the night stay (Qiyaam-ul-Layl).

These routines of the Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah Be upon him) are mentioned so that we too can get the blessings and happiness of this month by following the Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah Be upon him).

An Overview of Prophet’s (PBUH) Routines

Briefly, the routines of the Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah Be upon him) during the holy month of Ramadan can be described as follows:

1. Ramadan’s Fasting:

This means that it is obligatory to observe fasts during the month of Ramadan.

2. Qiyaam-ul-Layl:

During the nights of Ramadan, Taraaweeh prayers, Tasbeeh and Tahlil, and frequent remembrance and Zikar are the routines of our beloved Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah Be upon him).

3. Completion of the Quran:

The practice of reciting the complete Holy Quran during the month of Ramadan.

4. I’tikaaf:

Sitting in the mosque during the last ten days of Ramadan with the intention of I’tikaaf.

5. Tahajjud Prayers:

Demonstrating more enthusiasm and interest in performing Tahajjud prayers in Ramadan than in other months of the year.

6. Charity:

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) used to do more charity in this month than in other months.

We should also make sure that we stay up all night at our prayer mats in the month of Ramadan. Recite wazaif and Durood on our prayer beads and pray to Allah for our forgiveness.

Ramadan Fasting and the Routines of the Prophet (May Peace Be Upon Him)

The Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) loved Ramadan so much that he often prayed for it. He prepared for Ramadan one month before by fasting in Sha’ban month.

Prayers of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) For Ramadan

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) used to say this prayer often from the beginning of the month of Rajab.

It is narrated on the authority of Hazrat Anas Bin Malik, who said that

when the month of Rajab al-Murrajab started, the Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) used to say this prayer. “O Allah! Bless Rajab and Sha’ban for us and grant us, Ramadan”.

Special Prayer on Seeing the Moon of Ramadan

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) used to offer special prayers when he saw the moon of Ramadan.

When the Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) saw the moon of Ramadan, he used to say:

This moon is full of goodness and blessings and I believe in the One who created you.

Welcome to Ramadan

The Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) used to welcome this blessed month.

The Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) further clarified the blessings of this month by asking his companions about the reception of Ramadan through questioning.

When the month of Ramadan came, the Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) used to ask his companions, “Who are you welcoming and who is welcoming you?” (You said these words three times).

Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Messenger of Allah (May Peace be upon him) whether any revelation is about to come down or war with an enemy.

The Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) said: No, there is no such thing. Then he said: You are welcoming Ramadan on the first night of which all the people of Qibla are forgiven.
