The meaning of the statement of the night of Miraj (AlMiraj) in Surah Bani Isra’il is that Glory is to the One Who took His servant from the Masjid al-Haram to the Masjid Al-Aqsa at night and blessed its surroundings to show him some examples of his power. In fact, He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.
The above verse describes the event of Miraj (AlMiraj) which is a special honor and distinguished miracle of the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon Him.
There are two parts to this Miraj. The first part of this holy journey is called Isra, which is the journey from Masjid al-Haram to Masjid al-Aqsa. Upon reaching here, the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him led all the Holy Prophets. Then he ascended from Bait Ul Muqadas to the seven heavens and reached a place near where no angel could reach. This second part of this holy journey is called Al-Mi’raj.
There is some mention of Miraj has also been made in Surah An-Najm. At this point, the head of the angels, Gabriel Amin, also reached Sidra al-Muntaha and confessed his disability from proceeding.
On the twenty-seventh night of Rajab, Gabriel Amin took Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) from Masjid al-Haram to Masjid al-Aqsa. There he led the Prophets then he took him to the heavens. There he met various glorious prophets in different heavens. He finally reached Sidra al-Muntaha and had the privilege of meeting Allah Almighty. He was also shown in heaven and hell.
On the night of Miraj, Allah Almighty bestowed three gifts on the Holy Prophet (PBUH). In which the good news of Islamic beliefs, the fulfillment of faith, and the end of sufferings and afflictions were announced. It was also announced that whoever stays away from polytheism in the Ummah of the Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) will be forgiven. And the believers were given the prayer and interpreted it as the AlMiraj of the believer.
Initially, fifty prayers were prescribed, and then the good news was also conveyed to the Holy Prophet that the Almighty said: O beloved! We do not change our words, although the number of prayers is five times, their reward will be ten times. I will compensate your Ummah for the five daily prayers with the rewards equal to fifty daily prayers.
There are great signs of Allah’s power in AlMiraj. The real owner of this entire universe is Allah Almighty. When Allah Almighty called His beloved Prophet (peace be upon him) to show the signs of His power, it is impossible to estimate how long it would have taken.
The believers sincerely believed and confirmed the truth of Lailat al Miraj. But an enemy of Islam like Abu Jahl denied it and ran to Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq and said: O Abu Bakr! Have you heard what Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) says? Can it be admitted that he went to Bait-ul-Muqadas at night and returned after traveling to heaven?
Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “If my lord said, then he has said the truth because his tongue has never been tainted with lies. He is always honest and trustworthy. I believe in everything the Prophet peace be upon him said about Lailat al Miraj. Abu Jahl was surprised and said: Abu Bakr! Why do you think such an irrational thing is true? Abu Bakar Siddiq replied: I believe in an even more irrational thing (in Allah). From that day onwards, Hazrat Abu Bakar (RA) received the title of Siddiq from the Court of Prophethood. May Allah Almighty grant us the ability to follow the path of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). May Allah help us to worship as much as possible and to create sincerity in worship! Ameen
